Need opinions on best jet boat.

Okay guys I am looking for a steelhead/salmon boat. I am a novice and would like to know why guys prefer certain makes and anything to steer clear of. Thanks
1. Salmon snake and Columbia are rivers I plan to use it in. And of course lakes.
2. I may use it to tow a tube around for the kids as well.
3. I would like a hard top so I can keep the kids warm when the weather sucks..
4. Steering I can work with so no preference there.

I currently have a 20ft Lund Alaskan with a 115/90 Yamaha jet . In a tiller great open layout . But it’s limited with a thin hull and low hp ratings it. It works for just me and a buddy but not the family.

Where and how do you intend to use it? That will narrow the topic down a bit. Open tiller, center console, windshield, outboard, Idaho style, length.
'93 North River 19', Kodiak 350, 3 stage, and plenty of smart marks sold
'04 Boice Titan 22', Stroked 6.7 LS, Hami 212

I think you will be better suited to a price point first and working from there.

Well price point can change let’s just say under 35k. But I am sure I can find one a lot closer to 20k.

I look quite a bit for great deals. A nice hardtop with enough push to do a little water sports for in the 20s is going to be tough. Seems to be a few custom welds around in your price range. Also have seen a couple nice north rivers for sale on Portland CL. All with soft tops. The nice ones with good power and 212s will run you in the 30s tho. I think the commander has a good following and if you buy one right would be easy to sell when ready to trade up.

For the money this might be a good one to look at. Similar to what I use fishing in Riggins. (Not my boat, just looks like a good deal)

For a broad statement, I am sure there are exceptions, try to stay with a manufacturer still in business. It means it stood the test of time and you can get manufacturer help if needed. If someone were to list a boat to stay away from, I am sure there will be someone to say the opposite just as someone will chime in a manufacturer who is out of business that is a good boat. Remember it is broad statement, not meant to be all inclusive. Just my opinion.
Also get a boat set up that is popular so when you have to resell, it will sell quicker and for more money.
If you find a great deal that has most of what you want, don't hesitate to add options you want later. Engines and pumps are expensive.
If possible, take it to a jet boat mechanic and pay him to test drive it and have a look see.Get his opinion on the boat and it's price. Even if it means driving a long way to get it done. It could be the best couple hundred dollars you ever spent.

Think about the features that you may or may not want:

- solid bow vs. recessed
- side slider windows vs. snap in plastic
- suspension seats vs. fixed
- heater / defrost
- high deck vs. mid vs. low
- fuel injection vs. carb
- split duct reverse
- pump clean out inboard vs. outboard
- passenger wiper
- fuel tank size
- bottom thickness

Also, when you go to check out a boat that you are considering, try everything electrical: nav lights, gauges, horn, blower, bilge pump, wiper, etc. so there are no surprises.
Student driver. Stay clear.
