Try running without the stomp grate to see if it is causing your cavitation, it looks to me in your pic that it is sticking down too far near the front sides. Be very careful running without the grate run in clean water.

I have been wondering about that, the whole grate site a bit proud of the hull.

Looking closer at my pump and grate I noticed something today. Although the grate is closing completely to its stops, the rear of the grate plate is not actually touching the bottom of the pump block, leaving about an 1/8” gap. One could only assume that once the water clears the back of the boat (trying to get on step) that my pump could be pulling air from the gap at the back of the stomp grate, causing cavitation until the boat gains enough speed to stuff enough water into the pump and load it. Am I on the right track here?

Any thought from anyone about the gap at the rear of my stomp grate?

I doubt that that is your problem! I have ran with more gap(broken spring and bent ear on grate) than that with no problem. :Drink:
