A thought for admin: I'm not familiar with php, but am familiar with other server-side languages. They contain photo resizing features that can be applied to incoming stuff. If an uploaded image is more than 800 pixels wide (for example) or it is not compressed, then it gets reduced to 800 pixels and compressed "reasonably" (for example). This way, if somebody does upload something at 2 Mb, you can knock it down to 200 kb or whatever. This method would allow any gigantic upload size, and admin always controls what gets saved on the server. (I did a microsecond search on "php image resize script" and it looks like there are lots of options.) Probably you could apply this method to stuff already saved and reduce your sever footprint a LOT.

I Email the picture to myself that resizes it. Then save it in my documents and attach it from there.

So I just spent 20 minutes trying to post a picture from my phone to MC. Resized to 360mb, txted to myself, emailed and trashed......

When I hit submit it just says picture invalid. This happens to any picture on my phone weather it be phone pic or download. So what am I doing wrong? Maybe admin could demonstrate, hehehe!

I hate mobile stuff. Buy a computer. :Laugh1:

360MB? That sounds like a video.

Yes it can be posted from your phone. The resizing can be a pain though.

I do everything for my smartphone as I do not have a PC. if you go into the App Store you can download a free Picture Resizer it works great. it gives you three options I use the medium size and they seem to post fine

For those not familiar with the size acronyms, a kb is a killobyte, a mb is a megabyte, and a gb is a gigabyte. A killobyte is 1,000 bytes, a mb is 1000 kb, and a gb is 1000 mb. Based on experience from the late 90's when file smallness was important, a 200 kb photo can look very good on a computer monitor. So if your photo (video?) is 200 mb, then it is 1000 times as big as it needs to be.

Facebook (for example) appears to have no size limit; but they certainly resize everything as it's loaded on their servers. Otherwise they would be buying a semi-truck load of servers daily for pics of Fifi and Rotundra. Facebook also has an approximately limitless programming budget so the necessary programming is a snap for them.

Honestly I haven't a clue how YouTube can justify the video they host. They are consuming a truckload of servers daily.

So the pic sized 187kb won't load. Says invalid photo. The pic sized 1.08mb won't load. Says invalid photo. I send them to myself, adjust size on the phone, ect., ext., ext. Does anyone else have a problem loading pics taken from an android phone and figured this out? I can send them to my pc, but don't have time to deal with the hassel. Will the app make them 'valid'?

I don't know specifics, but generally an "invalid photo" means its an invalid file type. The server is probably set up to handle a few common types. It will verify the type to prevent malicious uploading of programs that will destroy the server. (There are MANY file types.)

I don't use phone crap, but on a PC, you can either (a) right click a file and ask about its properties, or (b) set up your computer to reveal all types (extensions). If the photo type is jpeg or jpg, then its pretty much gauranteed to work. Anyway, if you can identify what type it is, then it is easier to convert it to a jpeg.

I can post pics from a pc. To post directly from my phone is what I want to learn. Anybody doing this? My phone is an HTC DNA. If nobody else can do it then I have my answer. If someone is please tell me how. I have never pushed the issue cause I didn't want to look like a techy retard, but now I am here forthe world to laugh at. So far I haven't heard anyone else have the invalid photo problem.

Can you ask the phone or photo to tell you the file type? (Something like a right click on a PC?)
