Company's Responsibility

Postby JETBIGSKY 1 » Tue Jun 04, 2019 4:05 pm

I have a question about builders or maybe correctly exbuilders. What happens to there recent customers that have new boats under warranty and they have no one to take problems to. Also what happens to boat values when the builder is no longer around. Just a historical question not a legal one. Thanks

Id say if a company folds or closes, your up a creek for warranty issues. Sometimes builders sell out and the responsibilities of warrantee are taken over by the new owner. However, this is somewhat rare, or gets limited to some extent especially if there is a product name change. Most components on your boat comes with its own warrantee. Motors, pumps, ect, ect. The original builder is never responsible for these items although many will do the warrantee work for you. Generally builders only warrant the hull and if that company no longer exists, it will be on your ticket to pay the bill.

Kind of sort of TJ when they were owned by Mills. IWill be having a new one built this winter. So picking a builder is the reason behind the question.
