Thompson near Kamloops

Postby Dawb » Wed Jun 28, 2017 11:20 am

I'll be heading up to Kamloops to visit family in a few weeks and I want to drag the boat. What are the conditions? Are boats allowed on the river/lake right now? Has the water come down? Was thinking of spending a day on the lake with the nephews and neice, and then camping a night or 2 on an island in the river perhaps?
Any tips or suggestions? Any info welcome, I know there are a few guys in the area. Would love to meet up for some pops and a learner run

Took mine from the shushwap to Kamloops for lunch and back once. There is a good reason those docks stretch so far from shore, keep her on step and watch for markers. Can be hard to judge due to slow current and Sandy bottom. Good trip though

Pm me. I live in loops and been up and down both rivers countless times in all directions .... and there is plenty of water right now. Would be cool if we could get a bunch of boats together and plan a run. :Drink: ,Mike

Camp at Juniper Beach and run up to Savona or down to Ashcroft.

Ive got family in Ashcroft too, so it would be pretty sweet to go up from there. Still need some experience in that big water first tho!

There is no big water between Ashcroft and the lake that can't be avoided. Camping at Juniper and going up or down is fun. No fishing from boats though. And, of course, there is no way to get there right now.

Yes Dawb we are shopping, not sure what direction we are going though. Wish I could have two boats but the lottery hasn't paid off yet.

We may be re-evaluating the plan with all the forest fires going on up there. Not sure if its in poor taste to go up there to have a good time while so many are being displaced? Thoughts? Im not around there so i dont know whats goin on

Just came back from Louis Creek. Was helping a move from the coast. I've never been up that area and WOW it looks like a beauty stretch of river. Will have to come up spring maybe before runoff starts? Are there any launches still near Louis Creek? Can you launch at the Mclure ferry? Looked like there were some fairly skinny spots

You can launch at the Mclure ferry we always launch on the west side of the river. There is a pull out that has room for parking. Im sure you could launch on the other side as well.
