Kootenai Falls

Recently we ran up as far as I was comfortable.

I wonder if anyone on here has gone a bit farther, say to under the bridge, and at what flow?

Green is my stopping point. Red line looked questionable. Not much escape route.

Back in the 90s, I launched in Troy, MT and ran up river as far as I could go. A buddy and I were fly fishing and decided to see how close we could get to the falls. No recollection of the river flow that day. Based on your photo, I'd say we got to just above where you turned around but we got to a spot where I just didn't see any way to go further and, as you say, there was no escape route that I was comfortable with. So you've gone about as far as I have. It's beautiful country and the fly fishing was excellent. Thanks for posting your video, it makes me want to head back up there and spend a couple of days boating and fishing.

Yea. I just heard a story about a group of four who tried recently and rolled a 20’ weld craft. I was told only 1 survived. I’m ok staying dry and breathing. It’s an awesome trip just up that far...

A friend and I have tried to wear out that stretch over the last six weeks. Saturday was the last run for this season.
The video does not do it justice!! Video was around 20k ??
Flow was14.80kcfs, Saturday that was to low, won’t do it at that flow again. I think it was just over 30.kcfs the first time.
It is big, and steep, we walked it before running the first time, I think that is a must.

That’s so cool. And Thanks. I messaged your buddy when he posted that clip on YouTube. I will for sure be back up there when the water is high again. My boat is only a 17’ but I’m sure capable of making it.
