Boat Service in Seattle

Postby da prof » Tue Sep 15, 2015 10:55 am

So I am looking for information on the best shop to use for service on my boat in the Greater Seattle Area. At this point I am going to troubleshoot my problems but want to start by getting some feed back from folks here.

Three Rivers Marine in Woodinville, WA
Skagen Jet in Auburn, WA

Anyone ever had any experience with Skagen?

Update.

I went with 3 rivers marine at first. I called them first since they were highly recommended. The service guy (I think his name was Curtis) was nice but let me know I was behind about 70 boats for service and the wait would be around 1 to 2 weeks. Since they were highly recommended I dropped it off the following day and while I was there just double checked on the schedule. This time I was told it was going to be about 2 to 3 weeks since a few boats had more work than expected. The next day I realized I forgot my boat cover and rain was in the forecast. I stopped by to drop off the boat cover and figured I would ask one more time about the schedule... I know I am annoying but I was antsy to get this back on the water and at the time I was thinking it was just an oil pump. They let me know that I was now about 1 month out. I asked how I could go from 1 or 2 weeks to a full month in 2 days, again other boats took more work. I was concerned either everyone in front of me was having massive problems, the techs can't diagnose, they take for ever to do work or they just aren't organized. I figured I would walk into the shop to poke around. I was not impressed. I won't go into detail as some here might be offended or think I am trying to bash 3 Rivers Marine. Long story short, I took the boat home that night and started looking for a new shop to have the work done at.

After calling around and talking to people in the Jet industry it was clear that Skagen was a leader in the business but not an expert in the Aluminum Boat industry. I figured what would I rather have, an expert on pumps and motors or an expert on fishing hulls and fishing boat sales. I went down to Skagen first to look around. I found a clean shop, organized with nothing but Bad Ass jet boats all over. Tony and his brother were dialed and knew all about the various aluminum boats too. They pulled the motor the day I dropped it off and things went bad quick. Well bad for me as they diagnosed a motor with much more than just an oil pump. Long story short Skagen is a family run business that holds that family run style. Unfortunately while all this was taking place Tony's Father was seriously ill and in the hospital so I was expecting everything to take much longer and certainly understanding with the situation. Tony and his brother inlaw kept working away on boats while still taking care of family matters with good communication during the whole process.

The boat is back together has 2 hours on a fresh build Pump and Motor and it is running great. obviously time will tell in terms of total quality and other issues but I am not super concerned after seeing how well the work was done and the caliber of work they do on all the boats there.

So there you have it my Recommendation goes to Skagen Boats in Auburn.
