Lower Salmon Noobs Spring 2020

A couple days ago it was flat/decreasing. Predicted increase may from from rain, which often has little effect relative to snow melt.

Smitty Senior just visited the revised Pine Bar ramp. Also looked @ what he called the 'lava flow' (not sure if it is above or below Pine Bar).

His feeling was that "There ain't enough water to get a powerboat through there"...

Hmmm....

I'm in for anything after April 1,2020. This virus is a mess on the left coast. Looks to be about a 80-85 mile run one way. I'm putting in at Pittsburg and i need 7500 and over to get the 25 Aircraft carrier up the Salmon. This is my first run above the slide so read and run for me.

What is the run status? Flow looks skinny.

March 27 is a no-go. April 3 appears more probable, but flow may still be on the low side.

Due to unprecedented global cooling this may get bumped out to the weekend of April 11.

Generally our hope is that this cooling trend continues so we will have exactly the desired flow through the entire summer.

I'm assuming the Idaho ramps will be open. I plan to park in the Pittsburg parking lot and not use the campground. There are also ramps at Hammer Creek, White Bird, and Pine Bar. I assume Hells Gate or nearby ramp in Lewiston will be open because they are essential to various essential businesses, such as boat repair.

Are you thinking 10,11 and 12. Launch at Pittsburg and head down river? What is your guess on flow ? It's down to the wire for me as iIneed to be back on the 13 th. or run 17,18,and 19.

10-12 produbly. Temperature is predicted to increase somewhat during the prior week, so this should put us above 8K. Recall that during spring runoff, a couple degrees can make a lot of water, and a 2K difference is very small. Currently we're at about 6K.

Why are you putting in at Pittsburg for a Salmon River Run?

Its about the same milage from heller as Pittsburg to the lower salmon. Heller is closed. Running the snake from heller to the Salmon is boring.

20 from Heller and 27 from Pittsburg plus about an 80 mile drive to Whitebird plus another hour to drive 17 miles on a steep gravel road to Pittsburg. Yes you are right. About the same mileage :Laugh1: :Laugh1: :Laugh1: :Laugh1: :Laugh1: :Drink: :Drink:

For me, Pittsburg is at least 1.5 hours closer, and I don't have to stop at the Clarkston Walmart for a permit. And now the Heller ramp is apparently closed and barricaded.

Do you need a permit to run the lower Salmon? Sounds like Pittsburg may be closed too. How can it be closer if you have to stop in Clarkston?

I pass through Clarkston only if I'm going to Heller. Otherwise, I'm driving up from Boise.

I suppose they could remove all the self-issue permits at the Pittsburg ramp.

It may be best to wait and see how the government plays their hand rather than speculating. The proposed run is still 2 weeks away, and space aliens could vaporize the planet meantime.
