I called Hells gate the other day, they said it was open. It is a state campground.

Looks like this weekend is on the low end of noob-ble due to a brief warm snap (but too late to plan a run). Sunday and Monday temperatures are scheduled to drop like a stone, so the flow will follow. Warming is then predicted into the following weekend, at which point flows may be acceptable. Saturday/18 thru Monday/20 may have acceptable and rising flow. A worry is that if we wait too long, then the flow will jump to 80K overnight.

A strategy is to launch at Pine Bar, which I believe is on BLM land. But I don't know who actually owns the ramp. It is accessible from Cottonwood ID. There are also ramps at Hammer Creek and White Bird. Another possibility is an undeveloped spot here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@45.9138375,-116.4183033,374m/data=!3m1!1e3

Current BLM policy:
https://www.blm.gov/alert/blm-idaho-covid-19-information

Note that no policy I'm aware of prohibits launch at undeveloped locations.

A strategic problem with a Pine Bar launch is that it puts most of the run downstream from the launch, and in my opinion learning on the downstream is more challenging than on the upstream. A solution is to hop in my boat to pre-run each known difficult spot.

Nothing is definite until it is definite. If you seriously plan to attend, please chime in. If you are just blowing smoke, don't chime in.

I just took the family down the Salmon Friday out of Hammer creek. There were no signs stating the ramps or grounds were closed, I figured ignerance was bliss. Besides the weather was to nice to let the boat stay indoors

Yes, that is Church Camp launch. Also, Hells Gate State Park boat ramp is open as well as Grain Growers launch in Lewiston. Across the river in Clarkston, WA, Swallows Nest boat ramp is open.

Due to a cold snap this week, the plan is now to put in on Thursday April 23 and take out on Sunday the 26. That's 3 nights. If you can't make all of these days, then we can schedule a meet somewhere. I plan to launch at Hammer Creek. Others may launch in the Lewiston vicinity ish. I'm guessing the flow will be around 15K. If so, then it will be primarily a big water run. With a vehicle at Hammer Creek, refueling will be simplified for a possible run farther upstream. Part of the upstream run is boring, but part will definitely keep you awake.

Looking forward to it. Big water??? Only half of what we experienced during the 2017 run which was incredible. :Drink:

M'kay, medium big water. Maybe 3 years ago it was around 14K, which worked out fine with the known sleepers pretty much under.

I probably got the year wrong, was the year you ran granite at 70K plus. Cache creek ramp had a "v" in it.

Indeed, the 30K year (whenever that was) was quite interesting.

Based on the weather forecast, I'm guessing a few K higher than predicted. The next couple days may decrease more than predicted, but by Sunday it should begin to rebound. It is very touchy. If the temps end up 10 degrees warmer than predicted, it will be a flood.

If the flow is 11K, then watch video of "Half n half" and note the rock out the left window at 7 seconds.

Wow! With this turnout we may have difficulty finding a beach big enough for 6 feet of separation between everybody.
