Given the precip and temp forcast, I'm becoming optimistic that the flow will be "sufficient" (whatever that means).

So, is this date 'for sure' enough that I should put in for vacation days, and start charging the boat batteries?

Get the vacation. If the Salmon isn't right, then run the Snake instead.

Given flow predictions and a warming trend leading into the target weekend, optimism grows that flow will be "about right."

M'kay. Time to get more organized. March 30 thru April 1. Two nights on river. Looks like water will be sufficient. Probably. The first year we did this, the flow started at 7,500 White Bird and was rising very gradually. This means you definitely have to pay attention a LOT more than at 14K. But on the other hand, the terrifying Slide rapid is pancake flat. (This isn't an exaggeration.) And we'll definitely want to scout the graveyard above the bridge here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@45.907952,-116.4120186,1509m/data=!3m1!1e3

I will bring vodka and awards for last year's blockbuster video.

And I'll stash a LOT of premium with the camp host at our Hammer Creek turn-around point. I will aim for ethanol-free, but can't guarantee because it also needs to be low altitude premium (93 octane, rather than 91 sold at high altitude).

(Note: due to high water last year, we were thinking about continuing upstream from Hammer Creek to Spring Bar, but ran out of time. With lower water this year, we probably want to avoid this thought completely. Until at least a few of us already have experience at low flow.)

300club -- you bring gazebo thingy?

chariotdriver -- you bring gas fireplace thingy?

Who is definitely participating, and are you launching from Pittsburg or Heller? Plan is to meet at the confluence Fri March 30 at noon Mountain Daylight Time, so depart around 11 a.m. Given ~80 miles one-way, you'll need roughly 80 gallons for the round trip, plus 20 for margin. Please state how much gas you'll need at Hammer Creek. I have around 150 gal in 5-gal jugs. But if we have a definite gas taxi, we can use this as backup for the gas station in White Bird.

Some of us will be pre-running in Hells.

Caveat everything.

I'll be launching at Pittsburg, and can drop off a set of wheels for a gas taxi at hammercreek. still trying to talk the wife into coming and two teenagers, she's not sure if she wants to miss easter morning with the little kids.

work2play -- gas taxi = good. I be launching at Pittsburg. From a noob perspective, the Snake should be relatively easy (with a couple pointers along the way). The general thinking is that up-running the Salmon first, rather than down-running from Hammer, is best for the noob experience.

Also, given gas taxi, exact predictions of gas needs are less important. But I'll still bring a full depot of gas cans.

LTEdge: current plan is to run Upper Hells on Wed and Thu. So see you Wed eve. Predicted Hells flow is relatively normalish.

Peter, I'm going to the Rogue and don't need any dents till then. Diesel is running sweet and doing 10 days on the rogue. Will run lower Salmon later after water drops to learn river. Need to haul ice up to rubber ducks anyway. Everyone had a dent free run.

Predicted flow is sort of low at 7,500 White Bird.

https://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/rfc/

But it's still do-able in a caveat emptor sort of way.

vid from the first noob run, at 8K White Bird.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPJIK6UzWfs

On our first run, nobody had ever been on this stretch of river, and water-reading experience was low. Some love taps happened at Pine Bar, but we were about 50 feet from the low water line that is now known.
