Just Repowered Custom Weld Shallow Water - 250 Pro XS V8

Postby Captainvette » Fri Jul 31, 2020 3:45 pm

I have a 2017 Custom Weld Shallow Water that had a 1997 Evinrude 225 Vindicator outboard with a 7 3/8 V6 jet on it.

This was always a temporary situation because it came with a Honda 115/80 Jet on it which I felt was grossly underpowered and I told them to get rid of it and put this old Vindicator on in its place. The problem was I could only find a used 7 3/8 jet pump for it. It tended to slip and cavitate on holeshot. It is also a pretty heavy boat at this point since I also have a 24 volt Ultrerra trolling motor and 3 bank charger, 9.9 kicker, Fish Fighter Columbia Anchor system and sliding rail system + gear..... so not only did it slip but it took forever to get on step. Oh and ungodly LOUD too.

Well the day is here.... I just put a deposit at Stevens Marine (Portland OR) for a 2021 Mercury 250 Pro XS V8 with a 7 7/8 jet. I go down to get it installed 2nd week of Aug.

Pretty excited.

I tell myself that going from 1 mpg to like 3.5 with no oil will pay for its self.
